Keynote: Reimagining the Spaces in Which We Learn

It's not hard to recognize the typical "classroom." They haven't changed much. And while we can honor all the learning that has taken place in that space, there is more to understand about how spaces can be designed to create environments that serve learners in 2017 and beyond. Today, students have an opportunity to learn within an ever-expanding learning space, on that is filled with opportunities seek a personalized approach to learning and learning that is free from the constraints of time, space and place. Join David jakes as we re-vision the intersection of space and learning, and build a new new understanding about how learning institutions can create exciting and transformative physical and virtual spaces that afford students choice and ownership of their learning.

Breakout Session: Towards the Design of Contemporary Library Spaces

As the intellectual heart of a school, how the library supports student learning is simply mission-critical With this as a grounding construct, we explore the changing nature of what a library is, what it means for learning, and how this translates into the effective design of library spaces. We consider the library as a spatial ecology, giving attendees the opportunity to consider how a physical and digital library can work together to provide an always-on, connective experience that will resonate with today's students. Finally, our exploration of "library" presents the design process as a methodology that librarians can use to continually align and evolve the programs and spaces of the library to create meaningful capacities for student learners Join in for an enriching conversation about the intersection of library, space, and design.

Tuesday

Breakout Session: Classroom Makeover: Hack, Prototype and Design

In this session, we'll explore a simple design process that can be used to rethink and redo classroom space. We'll deconstruct both successful and unsuccessful spaces to illustrate the principles of effective design and provide simple but elegant "hacks" that can help you create more effective spaces. Leave the session with strategies for improving classroom spaces tomorrow, over a month, and in a year.
